A Local’s 4D3N Pre-Wedding Shoot Itinerary in Bali

Destination weddings sound like a legitimate wishlist for many brides-to-be. I was no exception. After all, Bali’s undisputable reputation as the go-to destination for nature lovers has reached far and many.

But it’s not all about having a Pinterest-worthy wedding, especially when it comes to combining factors like sourcing for a local planner, logistics and complex (read: elaborate) planning process.

But ditching the idea also meant more excuse to toy with this idea: having a destination pre-wedding shoot with a similar setting. In simple words, if you’re dreaming of having an outdoor garden party by the seaside, take the easier route and settle with a casual shoot at the beach instead.

Here, stunning locations to take your pictures and relaxing spots to hang out in between:

Traditional welcome | 1430 hours

We checked into Ananta Legian Hotel, a decent accommodation if you’re looking for a convenient touristy location in Seminyak. Popular food options like Sisterfields, Bikini Restaurant, Mad Pops Bali pinch the sidewalks and are all just 15-30 minutes away from the hotel by car.

Boutique shopping | 1520 hours

We had our late lunch at Sisterfields, we recommend having the signature Dirty Burger (above). Just beside it is a local boutique which I fell hard in love with (the store itself boasts tons of natural light and inside, it stocks quality slip dresses, premium leather sandals and local-inspired accessories). The right way to update your outfit choices in Bali, we’d say.

Walk along the street and stop by Seminyak Village and Seminyak Square for an extra dose of retail therapy.

Sunset dinner | 1815 hours

Unbeatable views. Laid-back vibes. Romantic atmosphere. A trip to Bali isn’t complete without a dinner at Jimbaran Bay Seafood Restaurant & Club. We figured the place is worth coming back for thanks to the seriously scenic views (but not the food). Try the roasted corn; there’s spicy, sweet or salty.

Nature abounds | 0700 hours

If you’re looking to have a shoot done, choose a local photographer. They’d know where to bring you, and most importantly, are familiar with the angles and spots. Love nature and don’t mind a bit of climbing? Tegenungan Waterfall is a beautiful spot to put on your list. A two-hour drive from the hotel (consider traffic jam), both tourists and locals frequent here to have a quick dip inside the shallow waters.

Sun, sea, sand | 1615 hours

There are a number of beautiful beaches in Bali to pick from. For instance, if you prefer black sand, there is Nyanyi Beach (which means ‘sing’). According to our driver, you could hear a beautiful humming sound when the wind blows against the rocks. Also: It is known for its sunset, and hence the perfect choice if you want that warm glow effect in your photos.

There’s also Tegal Wangi Beach and Melasti Beach if you like white sand. Close your eyes, feel the wind caressing your face, listen to the crashing waves — enjoy the small moments during your shoot, too. We thoroughly enjoyed the hours we spent in nature.

Finally I went back to Tanah Lot. The temple on a rock in the sea, is one of the most famous temples of Bali. I was here for the first time in 2011. Meanwhile I was more than 10 times in Bali and every time I wanted to visit the temple again, but it never happened because of many reasons. . 📍 Tanah Lot, Bali, Indonesia 🇮🇩 📷 @METravelBlog Thierry•Hanan Scheers . . 🌐 www.magnificent-earth.com ▶️ YouTube: Magnificent-Earth.com ▶️ Facebook: METravelBlog ▶️ Twitter: METravelBlog ▶️ Pinterest: METravelBlog ▶️ Hashtag #METravelBlog . . #visitindonesia #indotravellers #indonesiatravel #indonesiatraveller #livefolkindonesia #wonderfulindonesia #explorebali #ilovebali #baliholidayspot #balidaily #tanahlot #globetrotter #lonelyplanet #exploringglobe #solotravelers #solo_travelers #traveller #travelwriter #backpacker #worldtraveller #solotravel #letsgoeverywhere #travelstoke #seetheworld #travellife #beautifulplaces #doyoutravel #travellingthroughtheworld #lovetotravel

Enter Tanah Lot, a popular tourist attraction comprising a temple made up of a lone rock formation. To enter the temple, you’d need to cross from the dry area and walk through the walkway (which can be quite tricky and unsafe during high tide). For us, we felt more comfortable enjoying the temple views from a distance. The area is also home a cluster of street vendors selling anything homemade and local. You could get unique souvenirs in the form of wood homewares and Bali-exclusive tees from any of the stores at affordable prices. And, there are food options and resting areas along the way.

Souvenir shopping | 1640 hours

Getting last minute souvenirs from the airport can be expensive. For quality local goods at bargained prices, Sukawati Art Market is one of our favourites. We bagged home cotton batik dresses (super comfy as pyjamas) and some handpainted drawings. For more variety of local snacks, head down to Krisna Souvenir Shop. Here, grab some local coffee powder, peanuts and more.

Rest & relax | 1700 hours

Before catching the flight home, you have to get down to one of the most happening places in Bali that is Potato Head Beach Club in Seminyak. Firstly, the food is superb. There are three areas: fine dining on the mezzanine and outdoor space, serving both international and local menu; and the first level, exclusive to local offerings. You don’t have to make a reservation to hang out in the alfresco area (which was what we did, and it was one of the best decisions we made). We sat down on the grass patch area and had the most wonderful time soaking in the feel-good moment (picture grooving to tasteful contemporary music against the sunset).
