The Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) is pretty far from tourist hot spots (like Tsim Sha Tsui, Causeway Bay, and Kowloon). So if you’ve booked your night’s stay there, getting to and from the airport can be quite a hassle. Public transport is probably the first option that’ll come to mind—especially for those on a tight budget—and indeed, the bus is the cheapest means. But is it necessarily the most value for money? This is where the Hong Kong airport transfers come in.
Let’s talk about buses first: Taking a public bus from the HKIA is by far the cheapest option, and will cost only around S$5 per pax. Hence, if cost is the top deciding factor for you, then read no further. However, be warned: The public buses don’t guarantee you a seat, and you will have to keep a close eye on your luggage. It also takes around 1.5 hours to get to the city—time you can well be spending having a rest or exploring Hong Kong!
Next in running is the HKIA express train: Since it’s on the railway, it avoids all traffic jams, and hence is the fastest option. It will take about 25 minutes to Hong Kong Island. The retail price of the tickets are S$16 to S$18, but after discount on Changi Recommends, it costs S$14 per pax per trip. For a party of six, that amounts to S$84. We recommend considering this option only if a) you want to get to the city in the shortest time possible, and b) you live the near an MTR station. If you live far from the station, you’d probably need to take a taxi, which is an additional cost.
This brings us to…
At just S$87 for the biggest vehicle (that means S$14.50 per pax after dividing six ways), this is a very value-for-money option. It takes about 35 minutes to get to the city (with smooth traffic), and you will be in a clean, comfortable car the entire time.
Here’s how it works:
Not only is this service available 24-7 (yes, even in the wee hours when there’s no public transport), but the chauffeurs also go through stringent screening to ensure they are have valid vehicle licenses and have undergone a rigorous safety course. This means you can rest easy knowing that you’re in safe hands! Plus, you get VIP treatment too—they’ll “receive” you at the arrival hall with your name on a placard. Not bad, huh?
Choose from the following options:
- Premium 7-seater (S$87) *Recommended!
Up to 6 pax, with a maximum of 4 luggage
In a full car: S$87 / 6 people = S$14.50 per pax
- Deluxe 7-seater (S$84)

In a full car: S$84 / 4 people = S$21 per pax
- Deluxe 5-seater (S$66)

In a full car: S$66 / 2 people = S$22 per pax
The prices include everything except gratuities, but tipping is not customary in Hong Kong. That said, if you’re feeling generous and are pleased with the service provided, please feel free to give your driver a token of your appreciation!
